Everton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Arouna Kone will leave the club during the summer. The 33 year old arrived at the Merseyside club from Wigan in 2013, but never managed to establish himself as a key player for the side, having made 46 appearances and scoring 7 goals.
According to the BBC, Koeman announced at a press conference that Kone “has finished his contract and will leave at end of the season,”.
Kone’s departure is no real shock. Considering that he is an inconsistent performer on the pitch for Everton, the club will look to lay him off in order to give new strikers a chance. Koeman’s side will have to sign new forwards if they wish to challenge for a place in the Champions League next season.
Romelu Lukaku, who has been on phenomenal form this season, is also expected to leave and it will not be easy to find a forward who can replicate the form of the Belgian ahead of next season.
