Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole has expressed sympathy for manager David Moyes and feels that the players of the club have proven that they are not good enough.

The Black Cats fell to yet another loss as they were defeated 1-0 by Middlesbrough on Wednesday and could be relegated on Saturday should they lose to Bournemouth and Hull avoid defeat or if Swansea win.

Cattermole said, “It is difficult for the manager to come and speak to us after watching from the sidelines when there is not a lot wrong other than that final bit of quality. And, if we are not good enough, and over the season we have proven we haven’t been.”

Relegation is now a certainty and the club should focus on being competitive for their remaining Premier League games as well as building towards life in the Championship.

The club are likely to have a lot of players leaving and as well as arriving into the team during the summer.
