In week 14 of the Liga MX Clausura 2017, Tigres UANL will host Pumas UNAM at the Estadio Universitario this Saturday, March 15, 2017 (5:00 PM Pacific). Both teams are contending for a playoff spot and need the three points this Saturday.
Tigres UANL is slowly but surely emerging as one of the top teams in the Liga MX, currently in 11th place with 16 points, now three points away from a playoff spot. The felines are coming from their most convincing win of the tournament, dominating Chivas of Guadalajara, coming away with a 3-0 victory. The star striker, Andre-Pierre Gignac, was a key to the victory scoring two goals in the game.
The French forward has been inconsistent in the Liga MX this tournament, not having scored in four weeks before putting two past Chivas this past Tuesday. The ‘regios’ are still far from securing a playoff spot and getting a win here would be monumental for Ricardo Ferretti and company.
Pumas UNAM is also just outside of a playoff spot, currently in ninth place with 18 points. The Mexico City team is coming from a hard-fought 1-1 draw to Atlas at the Estadio Jalisco. Matias Britos scored the lone goal for the ‘capitalinos’ netting his third goal of the tournament. The Uruguayan striker was replacing Nicolas Castillo who was set to start the game but did not end up playing due to discomfort in his ankle. It is unclear whether the man with eight goals this Clausura will start in this match, but Paco Palencia needs him in his lineup. This should be a complicated game for Pumas UNAM, especially if Castillo is not available. The match is set to be one of the best in the Jornada and a real must-watch this weekend.
