Former Liverpool Mark Lawrenson has said that the Merseyside club must be regretting not having signed Dele Alli.
Alli was snapped up by Spurs in February 2015 for a bargain price of £5 million and then was loaned back to the League One team. Since establishing himself within the Spurs first team last season, Alli has become arguably one of the brightest young talents in European and English football.
He was awarded the PFA Young Player award last season and will be expected to retain it this season.
Liverpool had been interested in the signature of Alli before Spurs even established contact with Spurs about signing him and Lawrensen feels that turning down the chance to sign someone who has become a World class player must be still hurting the club.
He said, “He was going to Liverpool. It was absolutely all done and sorted but Liverpool had a change of heart the next day. It was a change a heart over money rather than the actual boy. They are regretting it every single minute of every single day.”
