Atlas is over exceeding expectations in this tournament, currently in sixth place with 18 points. The ‘rojinegros’ have made the Estadio Jalisco their fortress only losing one game at home this Clausura. The ‘zorros’ latest result was an impressive 4-1 away win against Queretaro, before that they had a hard-fought 3-3 draw to Club Tijuana at home. Matias Alustiza had a slow start to the tournament but has really picked it up now with six goals in the tournament. The Argentine striker also has three assists to go along with his six goals and will be key to getting a favorable result from this match.
Pumas UNAM is currently just out of a playoff spot in ninth place with 17 points. The felines are not on a great run having lost two out of their last three games. Falling 1-0 against Toluca in week 13 of the competition and 3-2 against Club America in week 11. Pablo Barrera will be out for the rest of the tournament for Paco Palencia due to an injury.
This will be a big blow to the Mexico City team’s midfield and will need to rely heavily on the production from Jesus Gallardo and Javier Cortes. Palencia does still count with one of the best players in the Liga MX in, Nicolas Castillo who has eight goals this Clausura. The match should be a thrilling one between two teams with major playoff aspirations.
