The first phase of Scottish Premiership has ended, and Celtic enjoyed one of the most dominant campaigns in the club history! The Hoops were undefeated, with 90 points, 26 more than second-placed Aberdeen!
Some of the fans are wondering how would Celtic compete against English Premier League clubs this season, and we think they would be superb! Here are the five reasons why:
Versatile Attack
Celtic’s offense, led by rejuvenated Scott Sinclair and young sensation Moussa Dembele scored 85 goals in 32 Scottish Premiership matches, which is almost three goals per game!
Celtic also had a decent Champions League campaign – they finished at the bottom of a very tough group, consisted of Barcelona, Manchester City, and Borussia Moenchengladbach, with three points.
They also scored five goals, four of those against the team from the English Premier League, Manchester City. With two draws against them, Celtic proved they can compete with the best English clubs.
Aerial Domination
Celtic defenders were dominant in aerial duels throughout the season, which is critical for the English Premier League. Although only Jozo Simunovic is higher than 190 cm among defenders, they are all physically well built and good jumpers.
Long Bench
It seems that Celtic has all that it takes to play two games weekly in one of the most competitive leagues in the world. Every player has a regular backup, which is crucial in English Premier League.
Impeccable Match Fitness and Constant Pressing
Brendan Rodgers prepared his team amazingly well. He emulated what he did in Liverpool in his most successful season – Celtic players are ready to work hard and press on the biggest part of the game. They are willing to punish every error their opponent makes and finish the job in a routine fashion.
The Thirst For Revenge
Some of the best Celtic players fell from grace in England. Moussa Dembele failed to make a bigger impact in Fulham, Scott Sinclair had several pale seasons in English Premiership as well, while Kolo Toure and Craig Gordon would probably like to show they can still compete on the highest level, despite their age.
But manager Brendan Rodgers would probably have the biggest motive of all – to prove that Liverpool made a mistake when they sacked him and that he is one of the best managers in the UK.
