Sunderland manager David Moyes has revealed that it is unlikely that Jan Kirchhoff will ever play for the team again and also added that he is hoping to develop a more stable squad ahead of next season. The Black Cats lie in last position on the Premiership standings and are expected to be relegated this season.
Moyes said, “What I’d like to do going forward is I’d like to have a squad that is robust. You won’t see Duncan or Paddy this season, that’s for sure, and we may or may not see Kirch, but, at the moment, I would say not.”
Throughout the season injuries to players such as Victor Anichebe, Duncan Watmore, Paddy McNair and Kirchhoff have hampered the progress of the side, who also failed to provide Moyes with sufficient capital to make quality signings during the January transfer window.
The team’s impressive young goalkeeper Jordan Pickford also spent time out during the New Year after suffering an Achilles injury against Manchester United late last year.
