Newcastle United defender Jamie Sterry has confirmed that he has returned to training. The 21-year-old has been out of action due to an injury layoff which has halted his ability to progress at the club.

After returning from a loan spell with Coventry City in January, Sterry had expressed hopes of gaining game time for the Magpies first team before the end of the season.
Fitness setbacks however prevented him from achieving his goal and he is now glad to make a return to training.
Sterry is however unlikely to gain game time for the Magpies this season. Rafa Benitez’s men are currently involved in a serious race for the Championship title against Brighton and Hove Albion and will be counting on their first team regulars to try and ensure success for them.
As things stand, the Magpies have a one point lead over Brighton and will be hoping not to slip up.
