Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has admitted that he would love to add Jermain Defoe to his squad. Defoe is likely to leave Sunderland during the summer unless the club survives relegation as the 34-year-old looks to win a place in England’s 2018 World Cup squad.
Defoe previously played for Bournemouth as a teenager during the 2000-01 season and during that time, he achieved the extraordinary feat of scoring in ten successive League games.
Howe was a team-mate of the veteran during that time and said, “I don’t think you can ever rule out being attracted to goal scoring strikers. It sounds funny because that’s their job but they are so difficult to find. It’s difficult to say because it’s all so hypothetical but I would imagine there’s a lot of people interested in him”.
Bournemouth may have a decent chance of signing Defoe during the summer should they offer the England international a good deal which includes regular playing time.
