Liverpool are likely to be unable to call upon Jordan Henderson for Saturday’s Merseyside derby at Anfield against Everton, and they also know for a fact that fellow English midfielder Adam Lallana will miss out. Here a few ways that the Reds could take in the match.
Remain in a 4-3-3, but plug in someone else in one of the three central midfield roles. Two of the roles will go to Gini Wijnaldum and Emre Can. The third could go to Kevin Stewart, Lucas, or even Marko Grujic. If Klopp goes this route, he would most likely go with Lucas.
Switch to 4-2-3-1. This might be most prudent, but we’ll have to see what Klopp decides. Origi would play striker with Coutinho, Firmino, and Mane in behind. Leaving Can and Wijnaldum, who isn’t a perfect fit in the defensive midfield roles.
Use James Milner. Maybe it’s time to give Alberto Moreno another chance at left back? If this is done, then Milner can be deployed in the central part of midfield. This seems the most unlikely thing to happen, but anything is possible.
Of course, Henderson may just rush back. Or you never know, Stevie G might just sign up to help out after that Real Madrid performance.
