West Ham United star Michail Antonio has revealed that his career could have taken an entirely different path in 2008 when he considered being a PE teacher.
The 26 year old has been arguably the Hammers best player this season and was unlucky not to have made his international debut for England after injury ruled him out of Gareth Southgate’s squad.
While Antonio loves football, he had also been considering studying at University and revealed this during an interview with the West Ham official club website.
He said, “I was going to go to uni. At that moment I was in college doing a BTEC and I actually got into Southampton University to do Sports Science.
“So in the following September I would have gone to uni, but I managed to get signed by Reading in 2008. I was thinking of becoming a PE teacher, so I had other plans, but there was only one thing in my heart and that was football.”
The winger has been a vital member of Slaven Bilic’s side this season and has netted 9 goals in 27 outings.
