Rooney provides support to Everton star; Blasts Aston Villa defender

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has wished Everton’s Seamus Coleman well after the defender suffered a horrific injury whilst on duty for the Republic of Ireland against Wales in a World Cup qualifier on Friday.

The 31-year-old also criticized Wales defender Neil Taylor who inflicted the injury on Coleman and labeled the challenge which caused the injury as “a horrible tackle”.

For Aston Villa defender Taylor, the consequence of his action was a straight red card. “Hope Seamus Coleman gets better soon. Horrible tackle,” Rooney wrote on Twitter.

For Coleman, the injury is set to have dire consequences. He is set to miss the rest of the season and could also miss the early weeks of next season.

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’ Neill confirmed that the injury was a “bad break”.  “It’s a bad break. Seamus is a fantastic player and character – it’s a major blow for the lad, for his club and for us,” said O’Neill.
