In the UEFA 2018 World Cup qualifiers, Belgium will host Greece at the King Baudouin Stadium this Saturday, March 25, 2017 (12:45 PM Pacific). The match should be a contested one between the two top teams in Group H of the competition.
Belgium is off to a magnificent start to this UEFA World Cup Qualifying stage, currently topping Group H with 12 points. The Red Devils have crushed their competition in this Group H, obtaining four wins and outscoring their opposition 21-1 in these four games. Belgium’s biggest win by goal margin was a huge 8-1 win over Estonia in match-day 1 of the tournament. Roberto Martinez will count with one of the best midfield cores in Europe with players like Moussa Dembele, Radja Nainggolan and Kevin De Bruyne.
Romelu Lukaku has been the main source of offense for the team with five goals so far, with Christian Benteke and Dries Mertens also providing three goals as well. The strike partnership of Lukaku and Mertens will be a very interesting one to see in this game as the pair have a combined 53 goals in all competitions this season. Belgium is the favorite going into this match, but Greece should be able to make it a less enjoyable experience for the home side.
Greece has also done well in this qualifying stage with three wins and a draw so far, beating Estonia, Cyprus and Gibraltar, while drawing to Bosnia. While the southern European team does not have a nearly as impressive goal-scoring record as Belgium they still outscored their opponents 9-2 in these four games. The key for a favorable result in this match for Michael Skibbe will be in the defense, led by the strong center back pairing of Sokratis of Borussia Dortmund and Kostas Manolas of Roma.
In terms of goal-scoring options, Greece has counted with Konstantinos Mitroglou for the past few years. The Benfica striker has provided two goals in this competition for the Greeks and 14 for Benfica in the Portuguese league. The match should be one of the more entertaining ones of this weekend in the UEFA 2018 World Cup qualifiers with both teams needing the three points.
