Stefan Johansen has claimed that Celtic star Scott Brown is the reason as to why he has been appointed as captain of the Norway national team. Johansen has been in brilliant form for English Championship side Fulham this season after transferring from Celtic for £2 million in August.
After being appointed Norway national team captain by Lars Lagerback, the 26-year-old has claimed that he learnt the art of captaincy from former team-mate Brown.
He said, “This is a fantastic honour for me. I have played with some amazingly good captains in my career. I had Scott Brown, who has been captain of Celtic for many years.
“There was Per Ciljan Skjelbred on the national team and I am now playing with Scott Parker at Fulham who has had a fantastically good career. I have learned something from them all.”
Norway currently liein fifth place in Group C of UEFA World Cup qualification with three points. They are playing in a group which includes current World Champions Germany, Northern Ireland as well as the Czech Republic. They next face off against second placed Northern Ireland on Sunday.
