The Independent has claimed that Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is set to rejoin Everton during the summer.
The report claimed that sources close to both clubs deemed the deal “likely to happen” which will see the all- time England national team goal scorer rejoin his boyhood club, whom he left as a 18 year old.
During the January transfer window, the Red Devils allowed Ronney to join a Chinese Super League club if he wished to, however the 31 year old chose to stay in England as he feels that he still has the ability to compete at the highest level. He also has aspirations to represent England in the World Cup next year.
One can assume that a deal is likely to happen. Everton manager Ronald Koeman also claimed last month that the signature of Rooney would be good for his club, saying “I believe that Wayne Rooney is still playing on a high level.
“I think he made a good choice to stay at Manchester United and stay in the Premier League. I think he still has two or three years in front of him to play on a high football level.”
