West Ham chief slams ex-Newcastle boss Steve McClaren

West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady has attacked former Newcastle United and England manager Steve McClaren for landing “plum jobs” when he fails to deliver.

“The umbrella is rolled up and Steve McClaren heads out of Derby, his ninth job as a manager,” Brady wrote in The Sun, “Why does he keep landing plum jobs? Twente and Derby came back for more, on the off-chance he might deliver. He didn’t.”

The 55 year old has endured the humiliation of being sacked three times during the past two years with two of the firings being at the hands of Derby County.

After being released by the Rams in May 2015, McClaren was appointed Magpies boss less than two months later. The Tyneside club however opted to sack him after the club struggled under his leadership and eventually got relegated.

Despite him not having the best of managerial records, Derby opted to re-sign McClaren as manager in October last year but parted ways once again this month following a terrible run.
