Star makes bold claims about Leeds United’s promotion chances

Leeds United midfielder Liam Birdcutt has confidently claimed that his side can finish in the top two of the Championship this season and win one of the automatic promotion places to the Premier League.

After 37 matches, the West Yorkshire side lie in fifth position on the League standings with 66 points.  While the Whites have surpassed the expectations of many this season, finishing in the top two is definitely a tough ask.

Leeds lie 11 points behind Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United, who make up the top two and have 77 points respectively.

“Yes,” Bridcutt told The Yorkshire Evening Post when asked if he thought that Leeds could still overhaul Brighton.

“Anything can happen in the Championship. It’s just one of those things and as long as we keep putting points on the table then I don’t see why not.”
