Star explains how his major decision will help Newcastle United

Mohamed Diame feels that his decision to retire from international football will help to increase the quality of his performances for Newcastle United.

Since arriving from Hull City for £4.5 million last summer, Diame has established himself as a regular at St. James Park, regularly being deployed behind the striker.

Diame appeared 36 times in international football for Senegal and last played during his country’s 2-2 draw with Algeria. This proved to be the only game in the tournament that he took part in and definitely would have influenced his decision to call time on his international career.

The midfielder said of his decision, “I know Newcastle is a massive club, and people have big expectations.

“I know that it is important when you are in a club like this, you have to perform at 100 per cent – even 200 per cent. It was important for me to take this decision for the rest of my career.”
