In the biggest mismatch of the Copa MX quarterfinals, Chivas of Guadalajara will host Juarez at the Estadio Chivas this Wednesday, March 15, 2017 (8:00 PM Pacific). Chivas is one of the best teams in Mexico, while Juarez is in 11th place in the Ascenso MX, which creates this mismatch.
Chivas is doing wonders in first place in the Liga MX with 17 points, ahead of Pachuca by goal differential. The ‘tapatios’ also had a strong Copa MX group stage campaign, finishing as the fourth-best team with 10 points. The round of 16 match against Correcaminos UAT was not a walk in the park for Chivas, the match ending in a 2-2 draw with penalties being the deciding factor in the game.
Matias Almeyda presented an alternate lineup for that game, but still used a couple of key players like Oswaldo Alanis, Xavier Lopez and Jair Pereira. It will be interesting to see what lineup Almeyda does use in the game as Juarez is not the strongest opponent, but the inactivity during the weekend may cause the Argentine manager to use more of his key players.
Juarez also made it to the quarterfinals of the Copa MX by winning in penalties, Cirilo Saucedo being a key figure, stopping two of Queretaro’s penalties. Head coach, Miguel Fuentes did use a strong lineup in the game using key players like Eder Borelli, Lucas Da Silva, Mario Ortiz, Cirilo Saucedo and Alonso Zamora. The border city side is currently struggling in the Ascenso MX in 11th place with 17 points and will not have it any easier in this match. The game should be a solid fixture with both teams looking to advance in the Copa MX, but Chivas should not have a problem advancing to the next round of the playoffs.
