Newcastle United are now facing a situation where they have to address injury concerns to three defensive players.
Ciaran Clark, DeAndre Yedlin and Jamie Sterry will all have to be assessed by the club’s medical staff over their respective injuries.
The club opted against bringing in defensive cover and may have to use players out of position. Clark suffered a knee injury during the Magpies 3-1 defeat to Fulham on Saturday which forced him off while Yedlin played no part in the game due to a thigh injury.
Sterry, who is a backup may be absent for much of April, after having undergone groin surgery last week.
Rafa Benitez had to use Paul Dummett out of position at centre-back on Saturday. Should Clark not be declared fit enough to play on Saturday, Newcastle do have Chancel Mbemba and Grant Hanley available.
The defensive crisis is definitely not a good situation for the Magpies to be in at the moment, especially with Championship title rivals Brighton now being level with them on points.
