Clark says leaving Aston Villa for Newcastle was a ‘no brainer’

Ciaran Clark has revealed that his decision to join Newcastle United from Aston Villa during the summer was a “no brainer”.

Explaining why he made the move to Newcastle, Clark said, “You can never predict what’s going to happen, but when I moved here, I just had a feeling that the club was set up to bounce back. I just felt we were in a good position to get things moving in the right direction again.

“There were a lot of things to that – the manager staying was a big factor, and then the quality of the signings that came in was another big positive.

“All of that meant it was a no-brainer for me to come here, and at the minute, it looks a good decision. Hopefully, we can keep fighting and keep winning until the end of the season and get back up to the Premier League.”

The move has been somewhat justified as Clark’s former club, Aston Villa who were relegated along with Newcastle from the Premiership last season are currently languishing in 12th position on the Championship standings.

Clark has enjoyed a good season under Rafa Benitez and is expected to be a contender for Championship player of the season.

The 27-year-old is certainly hoping to help Newcastle win the Championship this year and will be looking forward to playing in the Premiership next season.
