Newcastle suffer injury blow confirms Rafael Benitez

Deandre Yedlin

Newcastle United have suffered an injury blow after defender DeAndreYedlin suffered a thigh injury which manager Rafa Benitez has said, will keep him out of action for up to two weeks.

The USA international missed his team’s match against Reading, with Jesus Gamez being given the opportunity to play at right back.

Benitez gave an update on the 23-year-old saying, “Yedlin didn’t realise he had the problem against Brighton. We protected him against Huddersfield, but he had to come on.

“But he was complaining, and you could see that maybe it would be one week or two weeks. He had a knock, maybe has a small tear.”

Though the Magpies have cover in right back in the form of Gamez and Vurnon Anita can slot in, the loss of Yedlin will come as a blow, given the fact that the speedy defender has delivered impressive performances this season.

The club will however have a sense of relief after emerging with several points from their games against Brighton, Huddersfield and Reading.
