Leeds United’s £2.5 million target delivers a huge blow to the Whites

Ryan Kent, who is a reported target of Leeds United, has said that he has ambitions to play for the Liverpool first team under Jurgen Klopp.

“The manager gave me my debut last year when I came back from Coventry and to see him giving out even more debuts this year and putting his trust in young players in big games is pivotal – it inspires you,” he told LFC.TV.

“Not many clubs are giving young players these opportunities, so that’s more inspiration for me to go back to Liverpool in the summer, work hard in pre-season, and push forward for the first team.

“I’m really enjoying my time here. I’ve fitted into the team really well and I was given a great welcome here.

“It’s very exciting for me and a great experience to be playing in front of big crowds in big stadiums and it’s something I’m really relishing.

“I think it has helped my game playing in front of big crowds because I like to showcase my ability in front of crowds like that.”

This will come as a blow to Leeds United fans who had hoped to see the youngster sign for the Whites.

Kent is a product of the Liverpool development system, having been with the club since 2003 and made his first team debut last January against Exeter during the FA Cup third round.

Since then, he has had stints on loan with Coventry and this season with Barnsley in the Championship, where has made a good impression with his performances.

Kent’s displays for the Tykes have led to speculation that Leeds will be prepared to fork out £2.5 million to lure him during the summer.

However, he now seems to have ended the possibility of this transfer happening by claiming that he will have his eyes set on winning a spot in the Liverpool first team once he returns to Anfield at the end of the season.
