Though his side fell 2-0 to Everton at Goodisan Park, Sunderland manager David Moyes hopes that his side can build on their second half display going forward as they aim to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Moyes told Sky Sports, “The second-half performance was good, the first half wasn’t good enough, but they showed a bit of bottle to take the ball and pass it better in the second half and try to play. We have to try to build on that”.
The Black Cats were dominated during the first half and Everton deservedly took the lead through Idrissa Gueye’s 40th minute opener. Sunderland however did show signs of improvement and were unlucky not to draw equal when Jermain Defoe struck the crossbar.
The defeat sees Sunderland remain in last position on the Premier League standings and they have now moved three points adrift of safety after Crystal Palace beat Middlesbrough.
