Sunderland youngster George Honeyman has said that Lee Cattermole is a player that he admires and that the experienced campaigner’s return to action will be a boost to the Black Cats survival hopes this season. Cattermole is due to return to action next month.
Cattermole has only made three appearances this season with the last coming during Sunderland’s 3-2 defeat against Crystal Palace last September. Honeyman says that he hopes to emulate the all-action performances of Cattermole.
The injury crisis has certainly helped the inexperienced Honeyman make his senior team debut; however the 22-year-old has said that he is happy to face increased competition for a place in the squad.
The return of Jan Kirchhoff and Cattermole, in addition to competing with Darron Gibson, Jack Rodwell, Didier N’Dong and Seb Larsson, will provide Honeyman with more intense fight to earn a starting spot.
He said: “The more competition for places we can get, the harder everyone is going to train and play, and that’s just natural, that happens in any team.”
