Newcastle midfielder Mo Diame is reportedly considering retiring from international football and this will certainly be good news for fans of the Magpies. It may mean that they will not have to lose him for African Nations Cup tournaments in future.
Newcastle had to make do without the services of Diame for a month after he was part of the Senegal squad that competed in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
However he only made one appearances for the team at the cup which will certainly cause him to question whether it is really worth it being part of the squad.
Diame was not the only player that the Magpies had to make do without during the Afcon period with Chancel Mbemba and Christian Atsu also being part of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ghana squads respectively.
Diame who has made 32 appearances for his country, boasting one goal, will likely make a decision on his international future before Senegal’s friendly internationals against Nigeria and the Ivory Coast at the end of March.
