Leeds United receive huge injury boost

Championship side Leeds Utd have received an injury boost in the form of defender Charlie Taylor.

The 23-year-old has been missing in action since suffering an Achilles injury in Leeds’s 1-0 league win over Brentford in December. During his recovery, he missed 12 games for Leeds in all competitions.

His return will certainly provide a boost to the promotion hopefuls, who have won just one of their last three league fixtures.

Manager Gary Monk has confirmed on the club’s official website hat Taylor is expected to resume first-team training from next week.

“Charlie Taylor should be back training at the start of next week and we look forward to him being back involved,” Monk told LUTV.

“It’s an interesting one with Charlie because he is naturally probably the fittest or one of the fittest players in the squad.

“I’ve seen many players like that over the years where they can be out for a long period and not need too long to get back to it.”

Before his injury, Taylor was an integral part of Monk’s squad and started all but one game for the Whites. Saturday’s trip to Ipswich Town will come too early for him, but he could find himself in the matchday squad for the crucial six-pointer against fellow promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday on February 25.

Fifth-placed Leeds currently have a two-point lead over Wednesday, but the latter have a game in hand.
