Sunderland star explains what has pleased him this season

Jermain Defoe has admitted that he is happy with his goal scoring record this season as he attempts to assist Sunderland in avoiding relegation this season.

The 34-year-old has netted 14 goals this season and has been one of the few livewires in an otherwise shambolic Sunderland team this season.

Defoe’s current goal total is currently only four short of his best ever, which was achieved whilst at Tottenham during the 2009/10 season.

The former West Ham and Portsmouth forward has scored more than half of the Black Cats goals this season and if they are to avoid relegation, it is no doubt that more will definitely be required of him.

He said, “On a personal note this season has gone well in terms of the number of goals scored. There is no other feeling like it when you score – you feel confident and always look confident.”
