Sunderland and Newcastle battle to sign 22-year-old attacker, Magpies have the upper hand

Sunderland and Newcastle are interested in up and coming French Ligue 1 star Wylan Cyprien.

Mediaset have reported that the Black Cats are set to make an offer for the player during the summer, however should they be relegated; it is highly unlikely that the move will take place.

In addition, if Sunderland suffer the drop at the end of the season, Newcastle will get a clear upper hand over them in the race to sign Cyprien. The Magpies are currently in first position on the Championship standings and will in all probability be playing in the Premiership next season.

The 22-year-old Cyprien has proven that he is a valuable goal scorer by netting six goals and notching three assists to help Nice launch an unexpected title race.

Rafael Benitez’s wish to add a new creative midfielder to the Magpies squad also went unfulfilled during the January transfer window and Cyprien may be the solution to the wish during the summer.
