Aleksander Mitrovic explains why he deserved to be hauled off at half-time

Aleksander Mitrovic believes Rafa Benitez made the correct decision in substituting him at half time during their 1-0 win against Wolves.

Mitrovic told NUFC TV, “We spoke in the dressing room at half-time and the gaffer said it will be better if I stayed on the bench because there was a lot of pressure on the referee and it could be a chance to get a second yellow.”

Benitez believed that Pawson was being pressurized by the Wolves fans at the stadium to send Mitrovic off after his clash with Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, with the home supporters delivering a very strong reaction.

Mitrovic scored the sole goal of the hard fought win for the Magpies, which was his sixth of the season.

The win sees Newcastle retain pole position on the Championship standings as they lead Brighton by one point after thirty games.
