Manchester United star explains how Liverpool boss helped him cope

Mkhitaryan

Jurgen Klopp is quickly becoming the least hated Liverpool manager ever, or it seems as such. Former charge Henrikh Mkhitaryan, now plying his trade at Manchester United, has taken the time to commend Klopp for helping him become the player he’s become.

Speaking to BBC’s Football Focus, the Armenian said “I’m thankful to him… he showed me… you always have to keep your head up.” He then said he “just kept smiling” through the tough parts of his transition period to United.

Thanks to Klopp, that mentality would have been instilled in him to fight for all he had. Mkhitaryan’s early season was rather poor compared to the standards he had achieved at Dortmund under Klopp and Thomas Tuchel.

But as United started to gel as a team under Jose Mourinho, so too did Mkhitaryan. In fact, a lot of their good form is down to the Armenian’s play in midfield. He’s shown incredible pace and finishing ability, and he’s added that gritty defensive side as well.

There’s no doubting his true potential now, and you’ve got the feeling he’s just getting started winning things at United.
