Leeds terminate contract of promising striker

Leeds United manager Gary Monk has released Frank Mulhern and the player is now a free agent. Despite Mulhern’s contract having six months left, it was terminated. One can presume that the reason for this is because he was not viewed to be part of the clubs future plans.

According to The Express, he also apparently turned out for Huddersfield’s under 23’s on Tuesday without permission from the club. The 19-year-old made regular appearances for the Leeds youth team last season and many had expected that he would progress to be a part of the senior team.

Earlier in the season, Mulhern was loaned to non-league team Southport. However he failed to establish himself at the non-league team and was not even selected for a single match.

This illustrates that Monk was probably right to release the player. If one wants to play professionally and more so for a team challenging for a place in the Premier League, they should be able to shine for non-league teams.
