Despite the very visible signs that he is still not completely right, Liverpool legend Ian Rush has called upon Jurgen Klopp and the Reds to let Daniel Sturridge be the man to lead them back into the promised land.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Rush- who attends nearly every match- said he “was probably the most gifted striker we have,” before adding “I think he’ll play a major part in Liverpool making the top four.”
Everyone around Anfield and all of the Reds’ supporters all over the world will be shaking their heads either in agreement or in disgust. Sturridge splits opinions, and it’s because of the way Liverpool play.
One camp believes a change in style should come because of the poor results, which means he’d fare better. The other side points to results without him earlier in the season. So, which is right?
We may never know. Sturridge is unlikely to get the chance at this point. He’s simply not proven himself to be agile enough to get about and press, whether it’s due to injuries or laziness or whatever you’re inclined to believe.
Rush knows Liverpool need a man to pop up and score big goals like he used, but Sturridge just doesn’t look like he can or would even be allowed to at this point.
