Newcastle United will have to make do without the services of their top scorer Dwight Gayle for their match against Derby County on Saturday, as reported by the Derby Telegraph.
Gayle is currently suffering from a hamstring injury and also did not play a role in Newcastle’s 2-2 draw with QPR on Wednesday.
This will certainly be a blow to Newcastle. Gayle has been lethal this season and is the Championship’s top goal scorer with 20 goals and two assists.
The Derby defence along with Brighton, have thus far also conceded the fewest goals (21) in the Championship. The absence of Gayle will certainly give modest Derby an opportunity to capitalize as they know that arguably one of the biggest threats to their defense will be absent.
Derby will be aiming to maintain a stronghold on the playoff positions and considering Gayle’s absence may fancy their chances of gaining something from the match against the Championship heavy weights.
