Report: Everton promised to make a move for 25-year-old striker but backed out

Everton were reportedly interested in signing Standard Liege striker Ishak Belfodil, however manager Ronald Koeman made a U-turn and then decided not to sign him.

The 25-year-old was expected to join Everton during this transfer window before Everton decided against signing him. The player’s agent Christophe Henrotay has claimed that the Everton chairman Bill Kenwright promised that he would make a higher bid for the player.

Henrotay further claims that the deal fell apart as Koeman received negative news about the player which resulted in no bid being made at all (Voetbal Nieuws, Daily Star) .

The Algerian has been superb for Standard this season scoring nine goals and assisting 5 from 19 appearances. His form is likely to attract offers during the summer.

With only 18 months left on Belfodil’s current deal with Standard, the Belgian club will be forced to listen to offers or risk losing him for free. Belfodil is likely to leave during the summer.
