Liverpool are very keen to make sure that they secure Philippe Coutinho for the long term.  With rumors swirling that European giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, and PSG are interested in the player, it’s being said that the Reds have started talks with the 24-year-old.

Despite the fact that his current contract runs all the way until 2020, it looks like the Reds want to make sure he’s happy and that he stays put by giving him a much improved one.  That’s one way of making sure that no hard feelings arise, which would probably lead to a move.

Jurgen Klopp has really seen Coutinho blossom under his wing, as the Brazilian playmaker has become a much more consistent performer.  Before Klopp, you’d see glimpses of his skill and precision, but just not enough.  Under the German boss, he’s become a bonafide star.

Liverpool are making the right decision here.  You can’t simply let the contract wind down until 2019, and then expect him to stay.  You also have to make sure that if he does leave, that you put a large enough clause in there to truly be able to replace him!
