The fifth and final match-day during the Copa Centroamericana will take place this Sunday, January 22, 2017 (10:30 AM Pacific) when El Savador and Nicaragua face-off at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City. This game also marks what may possibly be the most significant contest in the tournament as the winner will qualify directly into this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup 2017.

El Salvador will have a very complicated match against their Nicaragua rivals this Sunday in what will nonetheless be played as a final. The team coached by Eduardo Lara currently sits in 5h place with 4 points and a goal difference of zero. The ‘selecta’ is obliged to win the game in order to qualify directly into the Gold Cup considering Nicaragua also has 4 points and a goal difference of zero. The tie-breaker would be in favor of Nicaragua because they have scored one more goal than El Salvador.

Nicaragua has played a tremendous tournament when considering their strenght compared to their opponents. The team coached by Henry Duarte lost to Honduras and Panama during its first two games, but tied to Costa Rica and defeated Belize in the last two. Nicaragua will have to play a perfect match against El Salvador in order to gather at least the point which will give them a direct seed into the Gold Cup. A loss will have them play a playoff wild-card against a Caribbean side.
