The Sun reported earlier this weekend that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is looking to acquire 33-year-old Southampton defender, Jose Fonte, who is currently valued at £7m.
While West Ham are also keen on the defender, the defender is keeping his options on hold until Manchester United make their move first. It’s, however, safe to say that Fonte wants out of Southampton, because he has recently handed in the transfer request, and could be on his way out.
The Portuguese has been with Southampton since the early stages of his career, and since the club’s League One days. He is said to have attracted interest from many top clubs after he starred for Portugal’s Euro 2016 winning side, and has played a pivotal role in the rise of international team.
He could be an integral part of the defensive line of Manchester United if the deal goes through, and could team up very well with Luke Shaw and Phil Jones. With Fonte looking to force his way out of Southampton, there is a high chance that the experienced defender will end at Manchester United.
