Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in making a surprise swoop for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.
Mourinho’s interest in Matic will come as another blow to Chelsea who also risk losing talisman Diego Costa to the Chinese Super League. Mourinho’s pursuit of Matic is said to be equally as important as his pursuit of Antoinne Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.
The Sunday Mirror claims that Mourinho sees Matic as the ideal replacement for Morgan Schneiderlin who recently signed with Everton and Michael Carrick who is nearing the end of his career.
Mourinho is apparently aware that the Blues are unlikely to sell now, however he remains hopeful of landing the Serbian at the end of the season.
Matic returned to Stamford Bridge in a £21 million deal in 2014 and has been one of Chelsea’s key men in midfield this season. The 28 year old won the Premier League under Mourinho in 2015.
