Aston Villa reportedly interested in Experienced Premier League winger

Championship side Aston Villa are reportedly contemplating a move for Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing. The 32-year-old, who spent two years with Villa before signing for Liverpool in 2011, has found himself out-of-favour under manager Aitor Karanka this season.

The former England international has managed only 11 Premier League starts, and BBC recently reported that the Boro are prepared to let him leave on a loan deal.

Birmingham Mail has now claimed that Villa manager Steve Bruce is interested in bringing the winger back to Villa Park.

Downing spent two productive seasons at Villa before joining Liverpool in a £20m deal in 2011. However, his time at Merseyside was far from a success, and after two years, he left the club to join West Ham.

Last season, he played a crucial role in the Boro’s promotion campaign, and his experience could prove to be vital for Villa’s promotion bid this season.
