Arsene Wenger has decided to put spending on hold until new deals for his existing players are set. According to The Sun, Arsenal manager wants new contracts for Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud, Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla.

The Gunners do have potential transfers in mind, but with the future of their current players still unresolved, Arsenal has decided to wait until next summer to spend big.

Wenger wants both Ozil and Sanchez to commit their future to Arsenal with only 18 months left on their current contracts.

Negotiations are also happening with Giroud, but all three players and the club are struggling to agree on wages.

While Coquelin’s contract does not expire until June 2019, the board is willing to present him with a raise, and Cazorla whose deal expires in 6 months might receive a year extension.

With the current quality within the squad, Wenger seems to be on the right approach when it comes to prioritizing retaining his star players over making new signings. It is hoped the Frenchman succeeds in getting new deals for his top players because their absence will heavily weigh on Arsenal’s future chances of winning any kind of silverware.
