Report: Aston Villa must pay £10m for Middlesbrough Striker

Aston Villa have hit a roadblock in their pursuit of Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes. The Mirror claims that the Boro have slapped a price tag of £10m on the Scotland international.

The 26-year-old wants to quit the Premier League side after spending almost a year with the club. Rhodes, who signed for the Boro from Blackburn Rovers in February last year, has managed only two league starts this season and wants to quit the club in search of regular playing time.

Villa boss Steve Bruce is a fan of the player and initially wanted to sign the striker on a loan deal until the end of the season.

However, the Boro want to recoup the entire £10m they paid for the player last year.

The report also claims that Villa owner Dr Tony Xia is not prepared to pay that kind of money for Rhodes and negotiations are likely to continue well into the transfer window.
