Leicester Manager Claudio Ranieri didn’t reveal anything when asked about the potential transfer dealings of his side in the January transfer window, as reported by Team Talk.
Currently sitting at 14th place in the Premier League table, Leicester started 2017 with an underwhelming draw against Premier League newcomers Middlesbrough on Monday.
Despite creating the lion’s share of chances, the Foxes were forced to remain content with just a point.
In the buildup to this game, Leicester were linked heavily with Genk midfielder Wilfred Ndidi. Born in Lagos, Ndidi has made 62 appearances in the League for the Belgian club.
Although he plays in the defensive midfield role for Genk, Ndidi has a respectable four goals to his name. Thus, if Leicester do sign him, they could expect the midfielder to chip in with goals.
However, as far as Leicester are concerned, they are looking towards the Lagos-born midfielder in a bid to solve their defensive woes.
For, ever since Kante has moved to Chelsea in the summer, the defensive midfield position of Leicester – currently filled by summer signing Mendy, has failed to provide a mainstay between defense and attack.
“I haven’t seen Ndidi – I don’t know who he is,” Ranieri said.
“We had a good spirit and one point is okay – the second clean sheet in a row is good for us,” added Ranieri.”
Thus, if Leicester sign Ndidi in the coming days, the position of Mendy – in the heart of the Foxes’ midfield, would be in serious jeopardy.
