Roma are ready to sell their German centre-back Antonio Rudiger in January, according to the Daily Mail.
The report claims Manchester United are keen to sign the former Stuttgart centre-back and Roma are ready to take advantage of the English giants’ interest in order to comply with the financial fair play rules.
However, the newspaper goes on to suggest United aren’t the only interested club in securing Rudiger’s services in January, with Chelsea, Liverpool and local rivals Manchester City all keen on the 23-year-old Germany international.
Rudiger had some injury troubles earlier this year, which forced him to miss his team’s opening games of the season.
However, the centre-back returned to first-team action for Roma in their 3-1 win at Sassuolo on October 26th and has since played 575 minutes in all competitions for Luciano Spalletti’s side.
Signing a new centre-back is thought to be Jose Mourinho’s priority for the January transfer window, as Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling have had their fair share of injury problems since the start of the season.
Even though Rojo and Jones have been doing very well as centre-back partners since last month, United could still do with another option in the heart of the defense.
Despite his injury troubles, Rudiger is still regarded as one of the most promising centre-backs in European football, but he needs to stay at Roma at least until the end of the season in order to prove his fitness and repay the faith shown in him by the Italian giants.
