Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, according to Spanish magazine Don Balon.
The report claims Jose Mourinho wants to bring the Croatia international to Old Trafford in order to partner him with Paul Pogba in United’s midfield next season.
The magazine goes on to suggest Rakitic could be tempted by the prospect of being a central figure at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old former Schalke and Sevilla midfielder joined Barcelona on a 5-year deal 2 years ago and has since made nearly 80 league appearances for the Catalans.
Rakitic has made 16 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona since the start of the season, scoring 2 goals and providing one assist.
Even though it’d be very difficult to convince Barcelona to sell one of their best players, if Rakitic expresses a desire to leave, the Spanish giants could be forced to sell as they wouldn’t want to keep an unhappy player at Camp Nou.
Signing Rakitic would be a massive coup for Manchester United. He’s one of the best midfielders in the world and his playmaking ability would give Pogba more freedom to get involved in the team’s attacks.
