Manchester United legend Paul Scholes could take charge of the club’s Under-23 side if he expresses an interest in the position, according to the Daily Mail.
The report claims United are searching for a replacement for Warren Joyce, who recently took charge of Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic, and would be happy to welcome Scholes back to the club.
United’s Under-19 youth team coach, Nicky Butt, has been placed as a temporary coach of the reserves as has also reportedly been tasked with finding a successor to Joyce.
Warren Joyce, who recently left his role as head coach of United’s reserves after spending 8 years at the club, enjoyed great success with the Under-23 side, but has now decided to move into senior management.
Paul Scholes is currently a pundit for BT Sport, but has expressed his desire to eventually head into management in the past.
The 41-year-old, who retired 3 years ago, could be tempted by the prospect of returning to his beloved club, for which he made close to 500 league appearances, scoring 107 goals.
If Scholes really wants to build a managerial career, taking charge of Manchester United’s reserves could be the perfect stepping stone for him.
