Manchester United are interested in signing Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg, according to the Daily Mirror.
The report claims United’s chief scout, Marcel Bout, watched the youngster in action for Ajax against Spanish side Celta Vigo last Thursday and saw him score a spectacular individual goal in the 41st minute.
Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen to secure the services of the 19-year-old, who’s been dubbed as the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but the striker’s impressive form means United could face stiff competition for his signature.
Dolberg, who signed a new 5-year contract with Ajax earlier this year, has been in phenomenal form for his club since the start of the season, scoring 8 goals and providing 2 assists in 19 games in all competitions so far.
He’s a clinical goalscorer, but can also get past players with ease. If he maintains his fine form until the end of the season, there could be an intense battle for his signature next summer.
However, Dolberg should not rush into leaving the Dutch capital side as he needs regular playing time more than anything else.
He’s still very young, so he should spend another season or two at Ajax to continue his development in familiar surroundings.
That being said, Dolberg could have entirely different plans for his future and if he decides to leave Ajax next summer, United would surely be one of the leading candidates for his services.
