Manchester United reportedly interested in Mexican midfielder

Manchester United are interested in signing Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, according to Spanish news website Fichajes.

The report claims Jose Mourinho has identified Herrera as the perfect partner for Paul Pogba in United’s midfield and has instructed the club to secure the player’s services in the January transfer window.

The website goes on to suggest the Mexican midfielder is keen to sign for the English giants as he’s desperate to play in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old former Pachuca player, who’s been at the Portuguese giants since 2013, has made 9 appearances for his club so far this season, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist.

United definitely need a deep-lying midfielder next to Pogba, but this player has to be able to dictate the flow of the game.

Keeping that in mind, Herrera probably isn’t the perfect choice for Pogba’s partner as he isn’t really a playmaker.

In order for Pogba to have the much-needed freedom to roam around the pitch, he needs a midfield partner who would be able to dictate the play from deep.

However, maybe Mourinho has other plans and sees Pogba as the team’s main playmaker in the future.

If that’s the case, then United need a defensive midfielder next to the Frenchman and Herrera could be a very good option.

The Mexico international is a very aggressive, energetic midfielder who also likes to get forward when possible.

Porto are notoriously difficult to negotiate with, but are also a selling club, so if United offer enough money, they’d definitely get their man.
