Stoke City are keen to sign Phil Jones on a season-long loan deal, according to the Daily Mirror.
The report claims Stoke manager Mark Hughes has been forced to switch targets following Mamadou Sakho’s decision to reject a move to the bet365 Stadium and has identified the Manchester United defender as a key target.
Jones, who is believed to not be in Jose Mourinho’scurrent plans, is yet to play for the Red Devils this term.
The former England international was once one of the best defensive talents in English football, but his persistent injury problems in the last couple of years have severely halted his progress.
The 24-year-old, who can play at centre-back, right-back or in midfield, only made 13 appearances in all competitions for United last season.
Jones seemingly isn’t an important part of Mourinho’s plans this season, so moving to Stoke City on loan would be a smart career choice.
Provided he can stay fit, he’d get plenty of chances to play at Stoke City and would be able to impress both Hughes and Mourinho.
