Reported Manchester United target likely to stay put

Monaco defender Fabinho is likely to stay at the club this month, according to Sky Sports reporter Bryan Swanson.

The versatile player has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past few weeks, but Sky are reporting Monaco are keen to keep him in France as they want to do well in the Champions League this season.

The 22-year-old Brazilian international, who can play at right-back or in midfield, joined his current team 3 years ago and has since established himself as one of the best players in the French league.

He’s a quality right-back, but Leonardo Jardim obviously thinks he’s better in midfield as that’s where he’s been playing since the start of the season.

Monaco signed a couple of full-backs earlier this summer, which is yet another hint that Jardim sees Fabinho as an important part of the team’s midfield.

Even though Fabinho seems likely to stay in France this summer, United could still tempt Monaco into selling their prized asset as the French club cannot really afford to reject huge bids for their players.

United convinced Monaco to sell Anthony Martial last summer and it could easily happen again with Fabinho this week.
